Maui High Performance Computing Center
The MHPCC DSRC, established in 1993, is an Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Center managed by the University of Hawaii under contract to the Air Force Research Laboratory's Directed Energy Directorate at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. The MHPCC DSRC operates as one of the five DoD Supercomputing Resource Centers in the DoD's High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). The MHPCC DSRC allocates more than 70,000,000 computational hours annually to the HPCMP Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation community.
The MHPCC DSRC provides computational resources for the Department of Defense's scientific computational needs through their support of DoD "Challenge Projects" and other government users. The Center also supports the Directed Energy Directorate's Maui Space Surveillance System.
The MHPCC DSRC's Terascale High Performance Computing resources showcase a wide range of technologies which include a 9,216 compute core Dell PowerEdge M610 system (Mana) with a peak throughput of 103 TeraFLOPS (103 x 1012 Floating Point Operations per second). With Mana as the principal computational platform, the total computational capacity of the MHPCC DSRC is more than 130 TeraFLOPS. 2. High-Speed Communications Infrastructure: OC12 connections, offering 622 megabit per second (Mbps) capacity, provide direct access to MHPCC resources - over the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) and the Hawaii Intranet Consortium (HIC), and
3. Support Services: An expert staff provides MHPCC users with systems, network, and applications support in addition to assistance with code porting, optimization, and application development.
The MHPCC DSRC is a national resource at the forefront of High Performance Computing and has established itself as a leader in the Department of Defense research and development community. Chartered to support a diverse base of DoD and other government users, the MHPCC DSRC is facilitating the collaborations needed to solve tomorrow's complex computational problems today.
